Mocanita Steam Train Travel back in time

Mocanita, as it is known by locals, is the only operating narrow gauge forestry steam train in Europe. It can be found in the northern part of Romania, in Maramures County and it has been the only form of mechanised transportation into the rugged Vaser River Valley since 1910. Nowadays, besides carrying logs for the well-known gates manufactured in Maramures, Mocanita has been given another role – that of carrying tourists from all over the world along the picturesque Vasser River Valley, one of the most beautiful and wild landscapes in Romania.
