Transfagarasan Highway ‘‘The best road in the world’’
Jeremy Clarkson, host of the British TV show Top Gear, named Transfăgărășan the best road in the world during a road trip in Romania in 2009.
It’s 90 km (56 miles) long and runs through the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains. Rising to a height of 2,042 meters and having numerous steep hairpin bends, Transfăgărășan poses challenges for any driver, hiker, cyclist or motorcycle enthusiast. Nonetheless, the unparalleled breath-taking landscapes make the entire journey unforgettable.
Fully open only from June to October.
